The Summerfield Family
We enjoy working on things as a family, our kids are all involved in learning and doing all the tasks alongside us. We enjoy growing a large garden and raising healthy, naturally raised animals to nourish local families.
Here is a general idea of what a typical year looks like for us...
Late Winter...
We start planning in earnest for the next growing season, we make decisions and set goals based on our plans for the year. We set up an annual farm binder to keep track of all things farm related as well. We also start taking our meat chicken orders and get busy getting geared up for the chicks to arrive in early spring.

Springtime...
We often offer tomato and pepper plant starts, that we grow from seed. We start raising the meat chickens in early April, and soon after we pick up our pigs that will become our butcher hogs. We start up the irrigation for the season to keep things green all summer long. We are busy planting he garden, watering the place, and tending the chickens for the most part, but we might take a day-trip and do little mushroom hunting in the mountains too.

Summer...
Summer keeps us busy with weeding, chicken butchering days, harvesting and preserving garden produce (and selling some too). We are up early in the mornings to beat the heat to get some weeding and harvesting done and animal chores, and then we try to hide out inside and get some schooling lessons done while it is the hottest outside. Once evening time gives us a reprieve from the heat we head out again and do it all over again. Summer is also when our hay field gets a couple cutting of hay cut off it.
Pigs are growing well. Horse checks out the pigs while enjoying some grazing time.

Fall...
In early fall we have a lot of produce available as the growing season comes to a close. The hogs are ready to head to the freezers of our customers. The best part about fall is the kids' fall decor products! You will have to check out the kids' colorful fall decor products. They grow gourds, Indian Corn, pumpkins, and they bundle up corn stalks for some pretty impressive fall decorating! Of course, we always take some time to do some hunting in the mountains each fall.
